The wisest man of his day, he authored 1, songs see 1 Kings 4: The Song is consonant with his great wisdom and skill. Solomon presided over the royal court in Jerusalem. However, many geographical locations throughout the kingdom are mentioned. Most evangelical scholars remain in support of Solomonic authorship. The Song is an epithalamium or nuptial song, an expression of love between a bride and her bridegroom.
Biblical scholars have debated whether the Song should be read figuratively or literally. Many Jewish and Christian scholars have interpreted this poetic expression of human physical love as a historical relationship that could also be interpreted a as a divine parable. Ancient Jewish scholars often regarded the story as a picture of Yahweh and His love for Israel. According to early church fathers such as Augustine, Origen, Jerome, and Bernard of Clairvaux, the Song revealed the love between Christ and His church.
As dissatisfaction with allegorical interpretations grew, evangelical scholars adopted the more literal reading as primary. Thus, the Song of Solomon was viewed as extoling human sexuality within the bounds of marriage, with a secondary application to Christ and His bride, the church.

When the word shield comes to my mind, I immediately think of ways to protect myself from something damaging. The Holy Spirit, through Apostle Paul, instructs us to wield the shield of faith in order to stop and protect ourselves against the fiery arrows that the enemy will try to destroy us with. We will learn about its importance, as well as the type of fiery arrows that try to destroy us.
What is a shield? A shield was designed to protect soldiers while in battle. In ancient days, shields took on several forms throughout the years. We can browse history books and pore through archeology finds, and it would not take long to notice the similarities of shields throughout different cultures. King David was a man of war; which means that he was very familiar with a shield and its purpose. He gave the Lord an attribute — among many descriptives in Psalm The Hebrew word for buckler is magen, which means a small round shield; in Greek it was called hoplon. At the deepest level of our longing is surely our longing for love, our elemental need to be loved and to love. Hope, peace, and joy, or any other good thing in life is likely to feel empty and unfulfilling, without love. Look at the cult of romantic love in our culture: How blissful it can be when these hopes are fulfilled — and how bitter when they are disappointed.
The yearning this cult of love points to is genuine, and it is profound, at the very core of our being. It is the yearning, first of all, to be loved: It is the experience of being affirmed in our identity: This is what love, and only love can give us, whether the love of friends or partner, parents or children. Equally basic is the instinct to love another, to delight in their irreducible particularity. The ability to give and receive love is what gives our life meaning and purpose.
At the heart of the Judeo-Christian faith is the conviction that this longing within us finds its answer in the very structure of the universe — the belief that the creative force that gave shape to the universe is not indifferent or even hostile to its creation, but delights in it and treasures it.
Many young women, like myself could not wait to date a man of God. Especially since I had already had relationships with men of the world and men of the church, however there is nothing like dating a REAL man of God. We want him to be a man of prayer and a man fulfilling his purpose.
The purpose of this series is to guide Christians into a deeper devotional life and worship to God by reflecting on God’s character and deeds and our response to God as modeled in the Psalter.
In the United States , public schools are banned from conducting religious observances such as prayer. The legal basis for this prohibition is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which requires that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof The first part of the amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” is known as the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, while the second part “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” is known as the Free Exercise Clause.
Though each of these clauses originally applied only to the central US government , the Fourteenth Amendment extended the scope of the entire First Amendment to all levels of government, including the state level, thus compelling states and their subject schools to adopt an equally detached approach to religion in schools. Instrument of Jesus’ crucifixion The gibbet on which crucifixion was carried out could be of many shapes. Josephus describes multiple tortures and positions of crucifixion during the Siege of Jerusalem as Titus crucified the rebels; and Seneca the Younger recounts: Frequently, however, there was a cross-piece attached either at the top to give the shape of a T crux commissa or just below the top, as in the form most familiar in Christian symbolism crux immissa. Lucian speaks of Prometheus as crucified “above the ravine with his hands outstretched” and explains that the letter T the Greek letter tau was looked upon as an unlucky letter or sign similar to the way the number thirteen is looked upon today as an unlucky number , saying that the letter got its “evil significance” because of the “evil instrument” which had that shape, an instrument which tyrants hung men on ibidem.
Apparently the most ancient image of a Roman crucifixion is a graffito found in a taberna hostel for wayfarers in Puteoli, dating to the time of Trajan or Hadrian late 1st century to early 2nd century AD. The cross is the T shape. An inscription over the individual’s left shoulder identifies her as “Alkimila”. Sharp , , in St. The Crucifixion, showed that nailed feet provided enough support for the body, and that the hands could have been merely tied. Nailing the feet to the side of the cross relieves strain on the wrists by placing most of the weight on the lower body.
Another possibility, suggested by Frederick Zugibe , is that the nails may have been driven in at an angle, entering in the palm in the crease that delineates the bulky region at the base of the thumb, and exiting in the wrist, passing through the carpal tunnel.
