We have a new Big Country. This is our second time out with it. We are attempting to set up our Directv Dish Satellite to the livingroom television. We have set all the azimuths, etc. Don’t know if there is a wiring problem inside the RV or what. We have camped for several years at this park, using the same hook system as we are currently using on our old RV. Never had this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

We are up near the border of Canada and aren’t even getting any good digital signals from the RV antenna. We just don’t know if the labels are correct or if the inside wire is good. From the UDC the cable connection goes to the bedroom and connects to the booster. The outdoor TV antenna also goes to the booster.

A cable from the booster goes to the bedroom TV and one to the entertainment center in the living room. One Satellite connection goes to the roof in the bedroom and coils up in the ceiling to be used by a roof mounted Satellite antenna.

While use of the techniques shown here are basic tests that almost anyone can do, sometimes an advanced method is required. While this won’t detect every problem, it will at least provide you with a basic Go-No Go indication, and will identify some of the wiring problems. A basic method of checking coax is with an ohm meter and a shorting wire.

Typical RVs with a single air conditioning unit and more modest standards of provision need a 30 amp service. All RVs need an electrical hook-up box, sometimes called an outlet or receptacle, to plug into. Decide what level of provision the electrical hook-up box must answer. Hook-up boxes are available with single amp and single amp outlets, and with multiple outlets, featuring a amp outlet served by a amp breaker, a amp outlet served by a amp breaker and a number of amp outlets served by a amp breakers.

Buy a rainproof electrical hook-up box with a cut-out design, so that the cover can be closed with the shore power cord in place. Some designs of hook-up boxes are available rated as “industrial,” which means they are built of heavy material and are equipped with heavy contacts. If such an uprating is available, purchase an “industrial” rated unit.

If you have recently added a satellite receiver or a DVD player, you may be wondering how they can both hook up to the TV. These steps will help you get connected. Most of the time, the installation is provided for you by the satellite company. But if you have a new TV or your satellite is not connected for some other reason, you can do it yourself – no tools required.

First, connect the coaxial cable from the wall to the Cable In or Coax In input on the back of the satellite receiver.

South Shore RV Park in Sodus Point, N.Y., Named Country’s Most Beautiful Posted on Thursday August 13, We are here at what we believe to be the most beautiful RV park in all of North America.

We opted to go with the Jack antenna. You have 2 options with the Jack antenna, one is a complete replacement of your bat wing and mast Since we didn’t want to deal with raising and lowering the antenna or risk forgetting to lower the antenna and driving away, we chose the full replacement unit. For colors, you have a choice of white or black, we chose white.

Installation started with the removal of the old bat wing antenna. Luckily it was in a convenient location near the side of the RV so I was able to do everything from a ladder. I’d rather not walk on the roof any more than I have to. I started off by removing the four screws that hold the rotating handle to the ceiling. A small set screw allows the handle to come right off. Now it was time to head to the roof. I raised the antenna so it would be out of the way and began to scrape off the old Dicor lap sealant.

Once I started, I found out just how poorly it had been applied. Thankfully, they used butyl tape and that prevented a leak! I used a gasket scraper to remove the Dicor since that is what I had handy.

You are transforming the 4-conductor telephone cable into a loop with 4 turns of wire. My home-made circuit continuity tester has both a beeper and a light that come on when the circuit is closed. Twist the two long wires together so that they have approximately 2 turns per inch. Watch out for kinking. Build a base for your antenna out of wood, plastic pipe, or other insulating material. Or, depending on the location, you could hang the antenna from a ceiling.

Let’s go RETRO

The boundaries of each band vary somewhat in different countries. To cover this range, antennas generally consist of multiple conductors of different lengths depending on the wavelength of the radio waves they receive. The elements of most antennas are half-wave dipoles ; metal rods half the wavelength of the signal they are intended to receive. The wavelength of a signal equals the speed of light c divided by the frequency.

The above range of frequencies is too wide to be covered by a single antenna, so often separate antennas for the VHF and UHF bands are used; or a combined antenna that has both VHF and UHF elements mounted on the same boom. During the last decade many countries in the world switched from broadcasting using an older analog television standard to newer digital television DTV.

Click on Catalog , then on Parts then on Coaxial Cable page in their catalog. I have no financial interest in RadioWorks, but I have been a satisfied customer for some time and I recommend them. Besides, their web site is well laid out and contains a lot of useful information, in addition to detailled specifications and prices for their products. I have also found the people there to be very helpful and friendly on the telephone. The main things you need to be aware of when selecting a transmission line between your radio and your antenna are: The type of cable you need depends on the frequency of operation, the power level, the length of cable you need you need better cable if you have a long run for instance and whether the cable will be installed inside, outside, buried in the ground, and also will depend on whether the cable will be subjected to frequent bending such as the cable that connects to an antenna on a tower with a rotator , or if the cable will lay on the ground where it may be stepped on by people.

The type of coax cable you use will to a large extent dictate the type of connector you use.
